YACHTING An open class yacht race was held at Lyttelton by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club on Saturday afternoon in a light north-east wind. The result was; Rona (J. Reid) 1, Turi (R. Samson) 2, Luana (R. Smith) 3. Eleven yachts started. Swimming The swimming season was opened at Corsair Bay on Saturday afternoon by the Lyttelton Men’s Amateur Swimming Club. The president (Mr S Tredennick) said that younger members were now keeping the club in activity and it was gratifying that at the fourth opening of the season during the war there should be so many swimmers present. Results of events were as follows:'—so yards breaststroke handicap: A. Miller 1, U. Norton 2, R. Duff 3; time, 45sec. Schoolboys' race, 33 1-3 yards: H. Hardwick 1. K. Norton 2, R. Norton 3; time, 25sec. 33 1-3 yards freestyle handicap: G. Hay 1, R. Duff and Reed (equal) 2; time. 21 1-5 sec. Handicap dive: R. Duff (21J points) 1. R. Stanley (20J) 2, G. Hay (19J) 3.
