BOXING

BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL TOURNEY

Good, open, two-handed boxing was a feature of the tourney held at Christchurch Boys’ High School yesterday, when the finals in the different grades were decided. The boys showed a willingness to "mix it" from the start, and spectators were provided with fast work from the opening bout. The open championship was won by B. H. Moore, I who conceded 81b In weight to his opponent, R. W. Holland. Moore showed a better knowledge of boxing, and his heavy punches had his opponent well beaten before the referee stopped the bout. Blackmore, weighing ICst 61b, had weight in his favour when he met Coulson, 9st 111b, but the latter's plucky fight was a feature of the boxing. Possibly the most promising form was shown by D. M. Brown, who conceded seven pounds but lost the decision to, M. J. Glue. Brown undoubtedly has the makings of a good boxer. Major J. D. Hutchison was referee, and Messrs W. Mouldey and M. J. Christie were judges.

Details are as follows: Under 6 stone.—G. J, Price sst 101b boat R. Williams sst 101b. Under 6st 101b.—F. Brown 6st 31b and C. Henderson 6st 21b were drawn to meet, but in the semi-final Henderson injured his hand and Brown was declared the winner.

Under 7st 101b.—H. W. Marriott 7st 81b beat N. P. Farmer 7st 11b. Under Bst 101b.—J. Brown 9st 21b beat E. R. Le Pine Bst 71b. Under 9st 101b.—M. J. Glue 9st 91b beat D. M. Brown 9st 21b. Under IQst 101b,—R. F. Blackmore lOst 61b beat L. J. Coulson 9st 111b. Open Championship.—R. H. Moore list 51b beat R. W. Holland list 131b. Moore forced the fighting from the start and had a clear advantage all through. His clean hitting and stamina gave him the open championship. It was a well-de-sorved win.
