SPORTS FOR TO-DAY
The main Rugby football attraction this afternoon will be the match between Brigade and A.S.C., to be played at Lancaster Park. An earlier match on the Oval will be played between Albion-Southern and Army. There will also be two matches at Rugby Park, Coastal Artillery v. ChristchurchMerivale and Athletic-University v. Canterbury Regiment. The other senior fixtures are: Signals v. Engineers at the Show Grounds; Linwood-Technical-New Brighton v. Moas, Air Force A v. Air Force B, Infantry v. Field Regiment, A junior seven-a-side tourney will be held at North Hagley Park The two main Association football games are semi-finals for the English Cup and will be between Shamrock and Signals at English Park, and Rangers and Thistle at Hagley No. 3. Other games are: Western v. Army, Air Force v. Field Regiment, and A.S.C. v. Nomads. In the League code, Army will play Metropolitan at Sydenham Park. , , , , Other sports include hockey, goli, basketball, cross-country running, and women’s hockey. The Canterbury Cash Cycle Club will hold a 30-mile Croft Memorial road race from Hoon Hay road to Motukarara and return; and the A von and Technical Amateur Cycling Clubr will conduct an interclub race at Mairehau over a distance of 38 miles. , The Canterbury Jockey Club s Grand National meeting will be concluded at Riccarton.
Scouts’ Help In Waste Drive.—A letter from the Canterbury Reclamation Board thanking the Boy Scouts’ Association for its help in the recent drive for waste material was received at the monthly meeting of the scout council. It was reported that three new troops had been formed in country districts and that Messrs L, E. Carter (Ashburton) and L. Morrison (Culverden) had been appointed district commissioners for the central and northern districts respectively.
