A RETURNED SOLDIER’S COMPLAINT
Sir,—When is this injustice to returned soldiers going to cease? “Volunteer,” in Saturday’s issue of "The Press,” has my heartfelt sympathy. He is only one of many who have been tfeated in the same disgraceful manner. In my opinion, a returned soldier, and a volunteer into the bargain, is a hero, and the best is not good enough for him. A man on so-called essential industries, such as painting and carpentering, etc., receives a fabulous wage. I would li'-e to know a.more essential job than that of going overseas to fight for one’s country. What price the Government’s fine promises to the men who have done their bit? Hats off to the N.Z.E.F, Bless ’em.—Yours, etc., ONWARD. July 20, 1942.
