The South Island field librarian for the Country Library Service (Mr A. E. Mercer) visited Rangiora yesterday and exchanged the supply of books left at the Rangiora Free Public Library during his last visit. About 400 new books were placed on the shelves. “Better use could be made of the country library service books,” Mr Mercer said, "Judging from the overall issue figures of the Rangiora Library, 15.3 books are read by each person in the borough annually. In view of that it is disappointing that more use is not made of the opportunities offered the Rangiora reading public by the Country Library Service.” Mr Mercer said he had recently visited libraries on the West Coast and in Nelson .where the scheme was operating very successfully.
