SALE OF FALLEN FRUIT
♦-! — A resolution that the council support orchardists in their efforts to dispose of fallen fruit for consumption was passed by a meeting of the Rangiora County Council yesterday when a letter was read from Mr E. K. Banfield protesting against the Marketing Department's control regulations forbidding the sale of ungraded fruit except to manufacturers. . The suggestion was made in the letter that the matter be taken up with the Minister for Marketing, because if the present control methods were continued the rest of the growers p£ Rangiora and Loburn would be eliminated. As the result of Government control 118 acres of orchard in Rangiora alone and many acres in Loburn had now been abandoned. This vitally affected the county and called for urgent action. "It is not a question of politics.’ said Mr A. M. Carpenter nn moving the resolution. “The Government's action means a great loss to thfe orchardists. and we should do something to enable them to meet their financial obligations to the council.” The resolution" will bo forwarded to the Minister for Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay).
