SPORTING

♦ , TURF GOSSIP Bloodstock Sale A sale of bloodstock was held at Trentham yesterday, when a mixed catalogue was offered to a fair attendance. A few sales were made, but there was very little competition for any lots, and several offerings failed to attract a bid. The following sales were made: —Account Mr T. H. Lowry, Oreum, by King John—Desert Gold, with filly foal by Bulandshar, Mr K. Geange, Upper Hutt, 145 guineas; Auratum, by Absurd—Desert Gold, with filly foal by Tiderace, Mr F. Foley, 130 guineas; Slack Line, by Night Raid —Miss Hook, in foal to Tiderace, Mr G. Shannon, Palmerston North, 60 guineas. On account Mr C. Chalmers, Waipukurau, colt by Theio —Perimeter, Mr F. B. Donnelly, Hastings, 45 guineas. Change Over The two-year-old, King Herod, was a late entry for yesterday’s sale at Trentham. but failed to find a buyer, and he will probably be raced by Mr F. Linley, of Christchurch, and trained by G. Ridgway. His owner, Mr J, H. Grigg, decided to transfer him owing to sending Streamline and Leopardstown to Riccarton. Both these horses have been hacked about for some time at Longbeach, and are in forward order.

A Probable. Favourite Martene is likely to be reserved for the Champion Hack Handicap at Trentham to-day, and will be ridden by A. E. Ellis, who will have the mount on Enjoyment in the high-weight event. Enjoyment made a good showing last Saturday, and is likely to go out first choice.

Kindergarten Scratched News of Kindergarten’s withdrawal yesterday afternoon from the Thompson Handicap was unexpected. His trainer, R. S. Bagby, was not aware of any such move until the withdrawal was announced from the club’s office. The owner’s reason was that he did not want to take a risk of racing the champion in such a hard race and in such a big field. Flans Indefinite

Hearth’s owner yesterday intimated that his mare would contest the open sprint to-day, as he realised she had no chance in the Thompson Handicap with a horse like Kindergarten. Now that the latter will be missing Hearth will probably start in the mile race. She has done well since she was last raced, and is certain to carry strong support in whichever race she appears. Remains on List

The executive committee of the Racing Conference yesterday considered an application by the owners of Ever England to have his name removed from the schooling list, but after some discussion the application was refused, the opinion being held that in face of his misbehaviour at Trentham in January he should be given a course of hurdling.
