— * — BELIEVED DROWNED CP a WANGANUI, Sept. 29. A farm worker, John Gordon Vicker, aged 17, is believed to have been drowned in a flooded stream near Rananui, in the Raetihi Jiatrict. H was reported missing on Saturday, having left on horseback on Jridayto visit a friend’s place three and a . ha . miles away. At Tongahoe he had to ford a stream, which was flooded, ine police searched the locality and found the missing man’s horse stranded on lpds?p below a waterfall 50 feet nigii. Vicker-s saddle, overcoat, and trousers were found in deep water ;. Th^ re no sign of the yoqth, or the six dogs he had with him. PLAYED FOOTBALL WITH ARM BROKEN * When W. Argus, one of Canterbury s backs in the Rugby match against the Combined Services team on Saturday. went to the Christchurch Hospital yesterday morning for treatment f°r injured right arm, it was found tda : a bone in the forearm had _ been broken. Argus suffered the injury about 10 minutes after play had started and continued playing, unaware of me nature of the injury, through both spells. He was discharged from the hospital after treatment.
