OWNERS AND BREEDERS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of members of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders Association was held last evening, Mr T. G. Fox presiding over a fair attendance of members. Mr Fox said the season had been a difficult one owing to war conditions. The association had done good work in sponsoring matinee race meetings which had the whole-hearted support of owners and trainers. Mr E. L. Husband drew attention to lack of any comment In the president’s report on the continuance of racing in war time. He said that members should have read the reports of Mr H. F. Nicoll. president of the conference, and those of the president of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club (Mr A. Rcse). Tipis view was supported by Mr Connolly, who said that he had yet to be showft that racing or trotting was in any way interfering with the war effort, and he thought it should go out from the members of the Owners’ and Breeders’ Association that whole-souled support should be accorded the president of the conference. The fact that the Government had not thought it advisable to close down on racing or trotting meetings was significant. He believed at this time the less interference with business the better and he considered the support of the association should be accorded Mr Nicoll in his defence of trotting as a recreation in war time. Mr E. R. Husband was elected a life member of the association. It was decided to make a donation of £25 to the Dominion Council of Trotting. v
