MILK SUPPLY FOR CITY

STATEMENT BY PRICE TRIBUNAL An indication of the effect in Christchurch of the stabilising of milk prices under the recent Stabilisation Order issued by the Hon. W. Nash as Acting Prime Minister has been given in reply to a correspondent of ‘‘The Press. The correspondent, who is replied to by the Price Tribunal, wrote as follows: — Sir,—About nine days ago you notified in ‘’The Press” that the Price Fixing Tribunal had fixed the selling price of several commodities. Among those named were meat and milk. In reference to the price of milk, can you inform me what wholesale and retail prices the tribunal fixed for milk?— Yoius, elc '’ CONSUMER. September 19, 1941. Mr Nash’s statement meant, in its relation to local milk supply that subject to seasonal rise and fall to the extent previously operative prices, terms, and conditions in force on September 1, 1941. would be stabilised at that level, replied the Price Tribunal. The tribunal added that it was hopeful, “on account of movements it now understood to be afoot” that adjustments in the present uneconomic handling and distribution costs would be made, thus permitting a variation in the rates paid to milk producers and at the same time leaving the present rates to Christchurch consumers unchanged.
