CLOSER RELATIONS WITH U.S.S.R.
The Society for Closer Relations and Aid to Russia held a public meeting’ at New Brighton. Mr George Edwards presided. A provisional committee was formed and the chairman, explaining the objects of the meeting, declared the need to promote closer cultural, diplomatic, and economic relations between the people of New Zealand and the people of the U.S.S.R. Messre 'A. B. Grant, E. Beardsley, and M. J. Locke also spoke. A motion was passed "That the Government by way of a gesture of friendship and sincerity towards the U.S.S.R. remove the restrictions upon Russian literature into New Zealand.”
