TRAINING OF ADULT ENGINEERS

PRAISE FROM MR WEE®

The engineering training scheme for adults at the Christchurch Technical College was praised yesterday by the Minister for Labour (the Jion. P. C. Webb). The Minister made a visit to the college and saw the men undergoing their tuition. “I conversed with the men individually, and I was much impressed with their type," Mr Webb said. “They have come from various occupations and are inspired with the desire for engineering training. They were formerly miners, Public Works tunnellers, and motor mechanics.. Each man expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity of learning a trade.” “The instructors, too, were very high in their praise- for the diligence and efficiency of the men'in attending the college and doing their work," the Minister said. He added his appreciation of the work being done by Dr. D. E. Hansen, the director of the college. The citizens of Christchurch were very fdrtunate in having Dr. Hansen at the college, where, in addition to looking after the important work of training the youth of the city, he was also in charge of the training of adult, unskilled men to become efficient tradesmen.
