ALLENBY PRIZE
* PRESENTATION TO NEW ZEALANDER Second-Lieutenant' R. Anderson (Auckland) is stated in a letter received from an officer in the Middle East to have passed out from the Officers’ Cadet Training Unit overseas with an A grade pass and with the Allenby Prize, presented to the outstanding cadet in the Middle East Forces. “Actually, it is the equivalent of the Sword of Honour presented at Sandhurst,” says the officer. “He was given a copy of General Wavells book on the life of General Allenby. personal y autographed by General Wavell. “When one realises,” the officer adds, "that from all over the Empire outstanding men from crack units are picked for this 0.C.T.U.. you will see that Lieutenant Anderson has .made- a name for himself and New Zealand, and proved that New Zealand soldiers take a lot of beating. Lieutenant Anderson was a forward in the Grafton Rugby team and represented Auckland in 1935, 1936, 1937, and 1939 He was selected for the North Island in l?3o. and assisted his team to victory against the South Island. .
