OBITUARY

♦ MR W. J. LANKSHEAR

The death occurred recently in Wellington of Mr William John Lankshear, one of the founders of the Wellington Master Printers’ Association. Mr Lankshear, who was 87 years of age, went to Wellington from England in 1878 under contract as a bookbinder to the Government Printing Office. A few years later he started work on his own account, his business being known as the Barnsbury Printing Works. He entered the publishing business in London, where as a message boy at Virtue’s publishing office, he often saw Charles Dickens. Mr’ Lankshear was the oldest member of The Terrace Congregational Church, and some years ago, in recognition of his services to it, was made a life deacon. He was for many years a member of the Wellington Choral Society. _
