PATRIOTIC FUND CARNIVAL
BIG CROWD IN LATIMER SQUARE
Bright sunshine and a wide variety of entertainment kept patrons of the Patriotic Societies’ Fair in Latimer square in high spirits throughout Saturday afternoon. Financially the effort was. a complete success. The secretary-' organiser was Mr J. A. Thomson.
The highlight of the afternoon was the tug-of-war championship, which resulted in Hardie and Thomson winning both light and heavy-weight events, although the former was hotly contested by a team from Harcwood Aerodrome. The Air Force team pulled extremely well, but were defeated by a narrow margin. In the women’s tug-of-war Macduffs.beat Woolworths after a very strenuous three minutes. Side-shows of all kinds proved popular and were well patronised by the public. An interesting feature was the raffling of articles ranging from an airscrew to a sucking pig, tickets being sold for Id.
