ENTERTAINMENT OF VISITORS
ESTIMATE CONSIDERED TOO HIGH
[From Our Parliamentary Reporter.]
WELLINGTON, July 23. “We are in the midst of war, and I suggest that the sum of £2500 for the cost of entertaining visitors to the Dominion is far too much,” said Mr F. W. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga), in the House of Representatives to-day, when the Estimates were being discussed in general. The Prime Minister promptly replied that it was the standing practice to extend hospitality to visitors. When the Dominions’ Ministers went overseas they were entertained. The amount of £2500 was only the estimate of expenditure; but he could assure members that expenditure would be reduced to a minimum during the war period.
