MARKETING OF BANANAS
REVERSION TO OLD METHOD SUGGESTED
EFrom Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, July 23. “It seems to me that we are not giving the people the best results as far as this fruit is concerned,” said Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition, Waitomo), when discussing the marketing of bananas during the debate on the Estimates in the House of Representatives to-day. He referred particularly to the practice of packing bananas in crates, instead of importing them bn the bunch, as used to be done in New Zealand, and as was still done elsewhere.
"In many parts of New Zealand, particularly in country areas, bananas are sold in a condition that should not be allowed," Mr Broadfoot said. He considered that ty reverting to the older method of handling bananas it would be possible to help the public to get better fruit, and to help the producer to get better values.
