WORKERS’ APPEAL NOT UPHELD
■■ . DAIRY INDUSTRY AWARD CLAIM (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) ( WELLINGTON. April 19. The decision of, the Industrial Magistrate (Mr J. A. Gilmour) regarding the application of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Employees’ Award, against which an appeal was lodgedby the workers, has been upheld by a majority decision of the Arbitration Court. ~i ' • ~ , , The workers claimed that workers in factories were entitled to overtime and additional holidays if required to work seven days a week. The Magistrate-, fpund .that the hours prescribed in', the award were for a six-day week, and work on the i seventh day was governed 'by the, clause providing for’ a seven-day week where not more than two workers were employed. Consequently; he held that time worked on the seventh day would not be included in the weekly total for the purpose of arriving at the amount of overtime, payable.
