SILVER JUBILEE
ASHBURTON PRESBYTERY CELEBRATES
The silver jubilee of the Ashburton Presbytery and the centennial of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand were celebrated at a social evening recently. The Moderator of the Presbytery (the Rev. D. D. MacLachlan) presided. Greetings from sister churches were conveyed by the Rev. Angus McBean (president of the Ashburton Ministers' Association). The Rev. Dr. Theo. of Oamaru» who gave the address, said that the strength of the church was a .precious heritage, won by those in bygone years. The centennial cake, which was made in the shape of the first Presbyterian Church in Ashburton,'was cut by Mrs White, a resident within the Presbytery for 75 years. The Rev. R. S. Watson, chairman of the Presbyterian Centen* nial Celebrations Committee, presented the Moderator with a Bible for use in Presbytery, Acts of thanksgiving and dedication were read by Mr Watson.
