ACCIDENTS

BOY DROWNED (press association telegram.) WHANGAREI, January 2. Brian Albert Moore, aged 11, Of the Mata North settlement, Hdkianga County, was drowned when, with his two brothers, Meryn and Allan, he was on an eeling and swimming. expedition on the Mata inlet. Allan got into difficulties and Meryn went to his assistance. He also got into difficulties and Brian struck out from the shore to go to their assistance. Allan and Meryn reached. the land safely, but on looking round could see no trace of their brother, who had disappeared into a hole, which later was found to be some 20 feet deep. The accident was noticed by two Maoris. One of them made a plucky attempt at rescue by diving into the hole, and later was successful in bringing the body to- the surface. Constable McNutt, of Kohukohu, was called, and he and. bis wife worked for one hour and a half at resuscitation methods, but these, proved of no avail. „ , . , Mr and Mrs Moore suffered a similar bereavement with an older son six months ago.

MAN SUFFERS HEAD INJURIES

Head injuries wete suffered by E. R. Hardaker, of 157 Peterborough street, when he was struck by a motor-car at the corner of Manchester street and Cambridge terrace late on Monday, night. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital and his condition was reported last night to be satisfactory. _ FATAL HEAD INJURIES (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) January 2. Fatal head injuries were suffered by Kenneth John Rennie, aged 57, licensee of the Ellerslie Hotel, early this morning. It is believed that he fell from a bathroom window into the garden where he was found by an employee. A doctor and an ambulance were.called at 5.10 a.m., but he died in the Auckland Hospital at 6 a.m. He was well known in racing and other sporting circles. YOUTH FATALLY SHOT (press association telegram.) INV ERCARGILL, January 2. A fatal shooting accident occurred at Castle Rock, the victim being Donald Joseph Kenneally, aged 19. It is believed that he took a rifle with the intentioh of shooting rabbits, and .that it accidentally discharged when he_ was getting through a fence, the bullet piercing his heart.
