DISCOVERY OF NEW SARCOPHAGUS
* MUMMY OF KING SHISHAK IN TOMB (Received March 21, 8 p.m.) CAIRO. March 20. King Farouk officially opened the Tanis sarcophagus which was discovered by Professor Montet, of Strassbourg University. It was ascertained that the mummy was not that of King Psouseenes, who owned the tomb, but that of the preceding king, Shishak. King Shishak is mentioned in the first Book of Kings as having come to Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam and taken away “the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house; he even took away all: and he took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.”
