STUDHOLME EWE FAIR

SATISFACTORY SALE

KEEN COMPETITION FOK TWO-TOOTHS

Mainly because of the recent welcome change in the weather and the consequent impetus given to the growth of feed in the district, prices generally satisfactory to vendors were received at the Studholme Junction ewe fair yesterday. About 15,000 sheep—a larger entry than was anticipated—were yarded, and there was a good attendance of farmers and buyers. : Pens of good open-woolled two-tooths were in keen demand throughout the sale, good sheep of this class selling at prices between 27s and 30s. Top price for twotooths was 32s 6d received for a pen of 246 entered by ’ John Dempsey, of Hook. Another pen of 148 of his two-tooths sold at 31s 6d. ■ Older ewes of good quality met with a satisfactory sale, a few selling exceptionally well. One line of four-year-old Romney cross ewes made the good price of 235. As in the northern sales, older sheep in the halfbred section did not meet With such spirited bidding, but there. was fair competition for most of them up to restricted limits. A range of prices, which showed a general decrease on last year, is as follows; Extra good two-tooth, 31s 6d to 32s 6d; medium two-tooth, 23s to 275; inferior, 16s 3d to 20s 3d; good four and five-year-old, to 235; inferior, 9s to 13s; f. and f.m., 9s to 15s.
