Municipal cleansing services have been greatly simplified by the advent of the mechanical horse.. In Britain to-day one tax covers n motive unit and an unlimited number of easily detachable trailers; one motive unit is capable of keeping two or more trailers employed simultaneously and, further, can'negotiate the'most congested traffic. Th^n'again'there"is a trailer to meet every need in public cleansing —a refuse collector, bin collector, gully emptier, street washer, etc. For emergency purposes this last machine can be used as an auxiliary fire engine or poison gas decontaminator.
