REPLACEMENTS UNTIL HALFTIME NORTHERN CUP MATCHES Until half-time, replacements in Northern Cup matches are allowed. This was the advice received at the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby League, held at Greymouth on Tuesday evening, from the New Zealand League Council. Mr J. Stokes presided. Permission to travel to Westport on August 20 and 21 was granted to the Blackball Club’s junior team. The widening of the roadway at Wingham Park to allow car-parking was discussed, and Messrs Stokes and D. Faris were appointed to approach the Grey County Council about the matter. It was decided to invite the Wellington League to suggest a date for its Northern Union Cup challenge. The Rest, at Wingham Park, at 2,30 p.m. (Mr Medlin). INANGAHUA CENTRE MEETS KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION WON BY WARATAH The Inangahua Rugby League Centre met recently. Mr C. Coxall presided. The Waratah Club was declared the winner of the senior knock-out competition and it was resolved that Karamea and Buller be requested to complete the northern section, so that the district final could be played and the team selected to challenge for the Thacker Shield. The Waluta juniors were declared the holders of the O’Donnell Challenge Cup and other junior teams will be invited to enter challenges for the trophy. It was decided to write to the West Coast Centre about the visit of the Wellington team to Inangahua after the Northern Union challenge match. Championship points made by the teams in the senior knock-out competition were as follows: —Waratah 6 Inangahua Junction 4, Waiuta 2. Grey Valley 0. In the junior competition for the Anisy banner the club championship points are: Reef ton 5. Junction 4, Waiuta 1. Power (Marist A), hacks, CHARGES AGAINST YOUTHS OFFENDERS DEALT WITH AT WESTPORT A sequel to an outbreak of lawlessness by two Westport youths was heard in the Children’s Court, Westport, yesterday. The elder youth was charged with theft and breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime on three occasions, and with the unlawful conversion of a motorcar on two occasions. He was committed to 12 months’ probation. The second lad was convicted and placed under the supervision of the local Child Welfare officer for 12 months, on one charge of theft, two of unlawful conversion of motor-cars, and three of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. On one charge of unlawful conversion, the other lad was convicted and placed under the care of the local Child Welfare officer for six months. Two Denniston boys, brothers, were charged with breaking and entering two dwelling houses and with the theft of £2 and articles. They were convicted and o’dered to be placed under the control of the Superintendent of the Child Welfare Department. CONCERT AT WESTPORT BROADCAST RELAY FROM GREYMOUTH The first radio broadcast of a concert from Westport will take place on August 7, when the function in aid of the Sellars Memorial Fund will be relayed from station 3ZR, Greymouth. In reply to representations by the Mayor (Mr J. Kilkenny), the Hon. P. C. Webb (Minister for Mines) said .e is making efforts to have the concert relayed through station 2YA. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES KARAMEA Mrs Kirby presided at the July meeting of the Karamea Women’s Institute. Circulars were received from the Institute for Blind Soldiers and the Westport branch of the Crippled Children’s Association. It was decided to sell goods for the blind, and to join the Crippled Children’s Association. Mrs D. Simpson reported on the Buller Federation meeting, held at Westport. There was some excellent entries for a competition for a cushion, the results being: Mrs L. Douglas 1, Miss Ina Duncan 2. Mrs T. Richardson, jun., 3 The second competition, for a toy. resulted; Miss Ina Duncan 1, Mrs W. Duncan 2, Mrs Len Douglas 3. Miss Duncan gave a demonstration on making artificial spring flowers.
