DIVERSION OF REVENUE WANTED RESOLUTION SUPPORTED BY RANGIORA COUNCIL Support for the resolution passed recently at a conference of Canterbury local'bodies and automobile authorities urging the Government to devote the net proceeds from motor taxation to the upkeep of roads was given by the Rangiora Borough Council at its monthly meeting last night. “I am sure that local bodies and others connected with the upkeep of roads will agree that if the whole of the net proceeds from motor taxation were devoted to the upkeep of roads the Highways Board would not only be freed from the necessity of borrowing money to cope with the urgent reading requirements of the country, but more money would be available and essential works could be stnrt'M.l sooner and carried out marc expeditiously than they are at present." said the Mayor (Mr C. W, Tyler). IMPROVING STREETS AT RANGIORA REVIEW OF .MONTH’S ACTIVITIES Activities of the Rangiora Borough Council outside staff during last month were confined more or less to improving streets, clearing reserves for tree planting, and attending to the drainage system, according to the report of the Borough Foreman (Mr J. V. Rowland), .which .was presented .at-, the monthly meeting of the council last evening. The widening of Lindon street was completed and an earthen channel and footpath formed, the foreman reported. Fences in Good street had been moved farther back from the road to conform with the general scheme far extensive street widening. Extra men were engaged on removing trees in Church street and in splitting them for firewood. , . Disappointment at the council’s decision not to purchase a truck was expressed by Mr Rowland in his report 3e said that the need for “some addition of this kind” was becoming more evident every day and that a truck would facilitate considerably the work being undertaken in the borough.
