GROWTH OF LINEN FLAX
-—♦ PROSPECTS FOR CROP IN CANTERBURY “It appears that much land in North Canterbury is suitable lor growing linen flax,” said Mr J. W. D. Hall, in a report on the work of the Agronomy Division, which he gave to a meeting of the provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday. • Experiments in growing the flax are being carried, on at the division. There was a world shortage of linen flax, which was used for aeroplane fabric, said Mr Hall, and a suggestion had been made that a factory should be built here to use the flax. About 1500 acres of the flax would be wanted to supply the crop needed to keep the factory going. One essential in growing the flax was a frhdeom from weeds.
