AN X-RAY PLANT FOR AKAROA

♦ HOSPITAL BOARD TQ CONSIDER PETITION The installation of an X-ray plant in tha.Akaroa Hospital was urged by a deputation from the Banks Peninsula branch of the Farmers’ Union, which waited on the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P., accompanied the deputation, which ' presented a petition signed by many residents in the borough and county of Akaroa. Considerable cost, inconvenience, and suffering were caused by the transfer of patients to Christchurch, for treatment, said the Mayor of Akaroa (Mr F. Davis), who introduced the deputation. It was the wish of the whole district that the petition should be granted. Mr H. E. Denton urged that the board should not Count the cost of giving such equipment to country hospitals. At the suggestion of Sir Hugh Acland the petition was referred to .the hospital committee, to be discussed by the' committee, the radiologist (Dr. R. N. Guthrie) and the medical superintendent (Dr. A. D. Nelson). The deputation was promised a reply after its request had been further considered by the finance committee, and the board.
