NEW SCHOOL FOR WAIMATE

GRANT APPROVED BY THE CABINET,. COMPLETION EXPECTED IN EIGHT MONTHS The secretary of the Waimate School Committee (Mr T. A. Wilson) has received the following telegram from the member for Waitaki, Mr D, Barnes: —■ "The Hon. P. Fraser, Minister for Education, informs me that the Cabinet has approved a grant for the erection of a new school at Waimate.” The plans of the new buildings were submitted to the school committee by the Canterbury Education Board’s architect in March, and approved. It is expected that the buildings will be completed within eight months. The new buildings will include an administrative block of six rooms, including a library, headmaster’s office, janitors room, cloak and store room, staff room, and kitchenette upstairs. The other section of the block will consist of two buildings with four rooms and cloak rooms in each. All the buildings will be constructed on the new open-air principle, and will face due north. A veranda will be built along the front of them and class rooms will open on to these. Only a small section of the old school will have to be moved for the construction of new buildings. The committee considers that when the block is comple + ed the old buildings will be completely demolished.
