BOUT BETWEEN LOUIS AND SCHMELING EXCITEMENT RUNS HIGH IN NEW YORK SPECULATION IN RINGSIDE SEATS (VETTED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received June 22, 11 p.m.) CHICAGO, June 21. At least 80,000 persons are expected to pay a total of 1,000,000 dollars admission to the Yankee Stadium to-morrow for the world heavy-weight boxing -title bout between Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. The German’s supreme challenge has captured the imagination of the public. Thousands are pouring in from all parts of the country, and speculators are selling 30-doilar ringside seats for as much as 225 dollars. The betting is /heavy. The bout provides a multiple drama of age versus youth (Louis is 24 and Schmeling 33), black versus white, and former champion versus champion. For Schmeling it is the supreme effort to regain the title—an unprecedented achievement. For Louis i'. is a battle to avenge their last meeting on June 19, 1936, when he was unceremoniously knocked out. He is the general favourite. ' Louis predicts that he will score a knock-out within two rounds, “if Schmeling will stand up and fight.” Schmeling declares that he is in the best condition of his career. “Naturally I hope to win with a knock-out,” he said to-day, “but I won’t attempt to name the round;” Louis weighs 14 stone 41b and Schmeling 13 stone 111 b.
