LANCASHIRE MATCH DRAWN CHIPPERFIELD HAS SUCCESS AS BOWLER (Received June 22, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 21. Losing three wickets for 80 runs in the second innings against Australia, Lancashire forced the match to a tame draw. Bradman made his eighth century of the tour to date.

The Australian opening batsmen, Fingleton and Brown, continued to bat with no more ambition than robots. After lunch, however, the pair livened up and added 32 from four overs. Brown was out after batting for 150 minutes. He hit eight fours and scored more in the half-hour after lunch than in the two hours before. Bradman, for whom the crowd waited patiently through a glum morning, did not disappoint. He began briskly, but soon lost Fingleton, who was in 190 minutes. The match was dead, but the crowd warmly applauded Bradman, who was scoring all round the wicket, at times showing great daring. He reached the century in only 73 minutes—the fastest hundred in England in the present season. Bradman declared at 4.5 p.m. His was a chanceless innings, with 15 fours. Lancashire reopened with 70 minutes left. Chippeffield dismissed Washbrook and Paynter in the same over.
