RATES IN WAIMAIRI COUNTY ESTIMATES FOR SPECIAL MEETING ' No changes in the general riding rates are proposed in the estimates for the curernt financial year, presented last night to the Waimairi County Council. The council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday week to consider the estimates. , The following shows the proposed rate and estimated return in each riding.— Yield last Deficit or Rate, year. Surplus. £ £
A summary of estimated income and expenditure for all ridings showed an outlay of £30,757. Of this, £8037 was for general expenditure, £17,320 for ridings expenditure, and £5400 for reserves plant and other items. Credit balances at the beginning of the year, less outstanding general rates, were shown as £9300, and general income from licences and similar sources was shown as £7560. It was estimated that the general rates would bring in £13,885, leaving a deficiency on the year’s working of £l2. Changes in the special rates’ are proposed in two cases. The Elmwood Park special rate last year was l-16d in the £; this year it is proposed to reduce this to l-20d. A reduction of l-64d in the £ is proposed in the Fendalton channelling No. 2 rate. Proposals for separate rates* showed increases in the three Styx drainage rates of 3-16 d, id, and l-16d respectively, while an increase of 7-16 d is proposed in the Spencer’s drain rate. The proposed hospital rate showed a decrease of l-32nd. *
A motion of sympathy with Cr. H. Kitson, a member of the council, in the death of his mother-in-law, Mrs Frances Anderson, was carried.
