ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
' FEWER COMMITTEES ELECTED FIRST MEETING OF NEW COUNCIL For some years the number of committees in charge of the various departments of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society has occasionally reached 10. Last night the number was reduced, and for this year, or at least for the start of it, there will be only five. They are an executive committee, a fish committee, a game committee, a finance committee, and a rangers’ committee. Last night’s meeting of the council was the first since the council elections, and there were before the council some recommendations from' the executive committee of the previous council. The executive committee, it was proposed, should handle the work previously done by the finance, ranging, and executives. . , ~ There was some discussion and disagreement with the original proposal to have only the three committees executive, fish, and game. The president explained that it was proposed that the fish and game committees would be on an equal footing with the executive committee. It was further proposed that each member of the council should hold a position on one committee, and on one only. The executive was to be composed of the president, the chairman of the fish committee, the chairman of the game committee, and two other representatives, one for finance and another for rangers. ' As an amendment to the adoption of the clause in the executive committee s recommendations, Mr Penrose moved that in addition to the fish and game committees a finance committee and a rdngers’ committee be appointed, arid this was carried when it became the motion. , The following committees were set UP ETnance: Messrs C. H. Lawrence, W, J. Mac Gibbon, and C. H. Stonyer. Rangers: Messrs H. W. Hams, N. McGillivray. and C. H. Stonyer. Fish: Messrs A. G. Familton, E. L. Wyles, R. B. Soanes, J. F. Hutchinson, G. Ebert. L. A. Dixon, J. Murphy, C. J. Drabble, F. W. Brightling, and S. C. Wiffin. „ „ ■ _ T Game: Messrs H. Penrose, E. L. Wyles, W. J. Mac Gibbon, G. Ebert, H. W. Harris, F. W. Brightling, and N. McGillivray.
