ANNUAL TRAMWAYS MATCH CHRISTCHURCH PLAYS WELLINGTON Play in the annual two-day cricket match between Wellington and Christchurch Tramways began yesterday at Hagley Park, in excellent weather. Christ-' church was batting at stumps, and was only XI runs behind Wellington’s first innings score of 158, the home side having then lost seven wickets. Wellington s first two wickets fell cheaply, but J. Standldge and J. Howard made a stand, putting on 36 runs for the third wicket. Howard made 34 and Standldge 24. C. Chambers, with 28, also batted well. The Christchurch side opened badly, and only 37 runs had been scored when seven wickets were down. J. Dawson and N. Trenbath then came together and were unbeaten at stumps. Dawson’s score yesterday was 58, including seven fours and a six. Trenbath made 26. Standldge, with three wickets for 27 runs, and C. Beaton, with three for 40, were the most destructive bowlers for Wellington. For Christchurch. R. Commons took five wickets for 47 runs, and G. Brown three for 47. SELF-HELP BEATS MONARCH CLUB In a match at Barrington Park the Self-Help cricket team defeated the Monarch Cricket Club by 131 runs to 75. For Self Help, Atkinson (50) and Crisp (38) were the highest scorers. Bowling for Monarch, C. Line took four wickets for 9 runs, and R. Ellis three for 17. W. Brown (22) and C. Line (14) were the best scorers for Monarch. Bowling for SelfHelp, Large took six wickets for 17 runs and Atkinson two for 20.
