| HEAD-OF-RIVER CONTEST UNION CLUB'S SUCCESS The Union Rowing Club, with 20 points, won the head of the river flag for the season on Saturday afternoon before a fairly large crowd. The Avon Club, with 10 points, was second, and no points were scored by the Canterbury and SumnerRedcliffs Clubs. Many close races were seen, but a keen disappointment was caused by the Avon senior pair defaulting to Union in the final because A. t,. Stiles was indisposed. Results were:— YOUTHS' PAIRS First Heat—Union No. 1 (C. Bunz and R. Nicholson) beat Canterbury (A. Foster and L. Barber) by a length and a half. Second Heat—Avon (H. Lorimer and E. Newberry) beat Union No. 2 (J. Lay ton and W. Toner) by three-quarters of a len«th. ... tfinal: Avon beat Union by a canvas. LIGHT-WEIGHT MAIDEN PAIRS Second Heat—Union No. 1 (J. Bryson and I. Iredale) beat Union No. 2 (R. Bryson and F. Mullally) by six lengths. Third Heat—Avon No. 1 (N. de Roo and L.E.Hampton) beat Canterbury (E. Cameron and W. Barnett) by three-quarters of a length. Final—Union No. 1 beat Avon No. 1 by half a length. MAIDEN PAIRS Second Heat—Union No. 2 (I. Friend and J. Woodward) beat Sumner-Redclifts (H. Bliss and W. Sutherland) by one and D. PROFESSIONAL SCULLING
TADDON WINS AUSTRALIAN TITLE SYDNEY, February 27. In the Australian professional sculling championship, Paddon beat Cook
by four lengths, in 19min 21sec, on Richmond river. Paddon led throughout, but Cook pressed strongly. Tlie time for the first mile was smin Bsec, the two miles taking llmin 15sec.
