NEED FOR SPIRITUAL INSPIRATION
"VITAL TO ROTARY" SERMON BY ARCHDEACON A. K. WARREN "If Rotary is to become really vital with its members, they must consistently seek spiritual inspiration," said Archdeacon A. K. Warren in a sermon at a special service held in St. Mwys Anglican Church, Menvale, last evening to mark the close of the sixteenth annual conference of New Zealand R from Psalm 62 verse 11 "Power belongeth unto God, Archdeacon Warren gave a brief review of the aims of the movement. He read the creed of the movement and said that the geared wheel, the badge of Rotary, was designed to fit into another wheel—signifying the development of energy. Rotary was a means to an end, not an end in itself, he added, and it tried to serve the community, the countryj and the world, in an international sense. Consideration of spiritual and ethical subjects was of paramount importance to Rotary. It could not rise above the level of inspiration of its keenest member. "Although it may seem paradoxical, service may be wholly selfish," he said, "but born of spiritual ideals, it springs from a source which will not fall into this snare." Rotary clubs were the channels through which service was liberated in whatever direction in society it might be needed. Special hymns, prayers, and psalms were used at the service.
