BOWLS

I PAIRS COMPETITION NEARS END RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S PLAY The third and fourth rounds Of the champion pairs competition of the Christchurch Bowling Centre were played on the Riccarton Racecourse green on Saturday The green was in fine playing order, but a strong westerly wind made conditions difficult. The final will be played between the Canterbury and Shirley pairs on a green and date to be aranged later. Results were:— THIRD ROUND Shirlev (W. Ross and F. C. Williams) 19 beat Op'awa (S. Marriott and A. F. Rollinson) 14. Barrington (T. Carey and T. G. Fox) 24 beat Linwood (R. Buchanan and S. Snedden) 10. Spreydon (R. D. Kennerley and J. J. Kennerley) 18 beat Returned Soldiers' Association (H. Mason and A. B. Young) 15. Canterbury (G. Paul and J. W. Turpin) 21 beat St. Albans (J. E. Wilson and C. Lancaster) 11. FOURTH ROUND Canterbury 27 beat Spreydon 9. Shirley 33 beat Barrington 11. The Canterbury-Spreydon game was much better than the score indicates, as the Spreydon pair, J. J. Kennerley and R. D. Kennerley, were unlucky on numerous occasions. They would have required something out of the ordinary to have beaten Paul and Turpin, whose form was wonderfully consistent in all departments. The Shirley pair gave a sound display to score an easy win from Barrington, who failed to repeat the good form of their previous game. The centre rink competition will be commenced next Saturday, and as it is possible that F. C. Williams, of the Shirley pair, will be required to compete he may not be available for the pairs final until he is out of the rinks, to which the next two Saturdays will be devoted. I
