PIGEON FLYING
o CHRISTCHURCH SOCIETY’S RACE The Christchurch Racing Pigeon Society flew a young bird race from Orari over the week-end. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 11 a.m., in adverse conditions. Times were slow. The winning bird, owned by R. Slack, flew the 80 miles 1320 yards in 2hr 53min The following are the placings and velocities:—R. Slack’s No. 759. 820.3 yards a minute: H. Clemen’s No. 1225, 818.7; W. Undress’s No. 773. 815.7: H. Manhire’s No. 190, 813.1; M. Wright’s No. 878, 787.3; W. Henry’s No. 1426, 783.6; J. Golding’s No. 888. 783.4; Wallcroft Brothers’ No. 791, 779.6; P. Smythe’s No. 37. 743.1; H. Marriott’s No. 756, 737.7. R. Slack won the nominated bird prize.
