YACHTING
NEW CRAFT BUILT AT KAIAPOI
Mr C. Kitson, of Kaiapoi. a member of the Waimakariri Sailing and Power Boai Club, who has for several years been building small yachts as a hobby, has completed this season an Idle Along class boat for his own use, which he calls Tamara. The Tamara is built of New Zealand cedar and is Marconi rigged. The Tamara sailed in the first heat of the Crozier Cup competition, run by the Waimakariri Sailing and Power Boat Club, and beat the M class yacht Matarere and the C class yacht Cordelia over a course of four miles in a light easterly breeze. During the Christmas holidays Mr Kitson took the Tamara to Timaru and raced her in the Timaru Yacht Club's races, gaining one first, two seconds, and a third. He also won the Caroline Bay Cup with 514 points.
The Tamara is the sixth Idle Along Mr Kitson has built. He also built the 18-foot yacht Anita, now sailed at Timaru, and
this season he has compelted for the, club's commodore, Mr D. Crozier. an 11 foot 9 inch dinghy of the English Una-King class, designed by UfTa Fox. the well-known English designer. The boat is probably the first of its kind in New Zealand. Mr Crozier had the plans presented to him on his recent tour of England.
