NORTH BEACH SURF CLUB DANCES
■in IHK EDITOR Of '1« " t'Rr.SS. Sir Allow me space in reply to Mi D V' Wilson's reply to the complainl on the conduct of the North BeacJ: Surf Club's dances. Mr Wilson state that he takes strong exception to the remarks of Mr E. W. Stevens ano states that all the evidence goes tc prove that the conduct of the dances i. very satisfactory inside the hall. J would refer Mr Wilson to two paragraphs in Inspector Blewitls report He states: "I understand the constable s report is not. a favourable one. Ihe conduct of the dance in the hall 'appeared' to be orderly," etc. He goes on to say, "But it is obvious that it they drink outside the hall they must have the effect of the drinks inside tin. hall." Further on in his report he stated the master of ceremonies, whe <s quite a capable and strict master ol ceremonies, said it was "the toughest" dance he had ever had charge of. It is therefore obvious from these remark; that the conduct in the hall had not been all that was desirable. I think Mr Stevens should be commended in bringing this matter before the Borough Council. I myself have seen the conduct of some of the dancer; on the beach and refrain from expressing an opinion. Granted the hall has not the conveniences that are required by the by-laws. It would be interesting to know how the Surf Club committee is carrying on these dances if as slated by the Town Clerk, no licence has yet been taken out. I would suggest that the Borough Council refuse a licence and thus put a stop to these disgraceful scenes even outside the hall.—Yours, etc., B. BROWNRIGG. North Beach, January 20, 1938.
