THEFT OF CASE OF GIN
♦ J WATERSIDE WORKER SENT TOJ GAOL (FBESJI ASSOCIATION TZUBOEAM.) AUCKLAND. January 20. Pleading guilty to a charge of stealing a case of gin. valued at £5. the property of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers' Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company, Ltd.. Leslie Robert Sneddon, a non-unionist waterside worker, aged 26, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. The police said that Sneddon, while working cargo, was seen to put a case of gin under a basket. Later, he was intoxicated. Disregarding counsel's plea, the Magistrate said: "How can I give him probation when he has been in gaol i three times before?"
