While walking along a street in Hastings a businessman noticed a huge caterpillar wriggling over the path. The caterpillar was captured, and when it was measured it was found to be four inches long. Inquiries revealed that it is a caterpillar of a species belonging to Fiji. One or two have been found in the district before, but they are by no means common. They are at least six times the size of the common variety of caterpillar. The caterpillar is being kept to see what haopens, it being stated that it eventually turns into a moth of great size.

A sanctuary for okapis is to be formed in the Belgian Congo, possibly in the Epulu Forest, in the Kivu district.
