CURRENT NOTES

Dr. and Mrs H. G. Denham (Fendalton) have returned from Dunedin, where Dr. Denham attended the annual meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand, He left for Wellington last night. Mr and Mrs A. E. Flower (Bealey avenue), who have been visiting Dunedin, returned to Christchurch last evening. Mr Flower attended the meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand. Mrs Frank Reid (Fendalton), who is visiting her mother, Mrs H, Vavasour, will return to Christchurch on Monday. Mr and Mrs H. D. Acland (Park terrace) have returned from Dunedin, where Mr Acland attended the meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand.

Mrs Richard Smith and Miss Marjorie Smith (Fendalton), who have been visiting Great Britain and Europe, will return to Christchurch this morning, Mrs Gordon McCredie (Fendalton) has returned from a holiday spent at Pigeon Bay and Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs Bernard Barker (Peterborough street) have returned from a holiday visit to Greymouth. Miss Betty Morrow (Montalto), who has been spending a holiday with Mrs J. R. Cuningham at Leithfield Beach, has returned home. Miss Lilian Thomson (Sumner) will leave to-morrow night for Auckland.

Miss Millicent Armour (Murray place) has returned from a holiday spent at Timaru, and is now staying at Sumner.

Miss Phoebe Melrose, who has been the guest of Mrs Carl Nees (Riccarton), has left for Wellington, to connect with the Awatea on Monday, for Australia.

Mr and Mrs H. A. Steel and family (Avonside) and Mr and Mrs L. Black (Avonside) have returned from a holiday at Kairaki. Miss Gertrude Jeffs (Sydney) is spending a few days with Mrs Fiddis (Linwood avenue) before leaving for the North Island. On December 28, the marriage took place at Emmanuel Church, Cambridge, England, of Alan Crowther, Ph.D. (Cantab), elder son of Professor and Mrs J. A. Crowther, 18 Redlands road, Reading, and Dorothy M. Maginness, daughter of the late Mr George Maginness and of Mrs Maginness, of Christchurch.

Miss Peggy Dailey returned to Rangiora yesterday from a holiday spent at Blenheim.' Mrs Frank Coates (Bush street, Rangiora), accompanied by her mother, Mrs Kelly, and two children, is spending a holiday at Waikuku beach.

The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges gifts of toys from Mrs B. A. Were, Regent street, for the children in the Sunlight League’s health camps.

Wing Commander and Mrs J. L. Findlay are staying at Warwick House, Armagh street, until Wednesday, when they will leave for Wellington. On Saturday they will leave for London. Miss N. Luke (Napier) is at present the guest of Mrs P. B. Sloan, Western terrace.

General S. R. Davidson and Mrs Davidson (Dornoch, Scotland), who have been visiting Canterbury, have left for Wellington on their way to Australia, where they will visit friends before continuing their return journey to' Scotland.

Mrs T. F. M. Gibson (Fendalton) will leave on January 31 for Melbourne to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs Danby. Mr and Mrs H. A. Young, and Miss Margaret Young (Cashmere), accompanied by Mr H. R. Young (Westport), will arrive in Christchurch to-day from a holiday visit to Kaikoura. Mrs Young spent part of the holiday with her sister, Mrs R. Shallcrass (Wellington). Mrs Ken Austin and family (Oamaru) are visiting Mrs John Montgomery at “Braelangwell,” Ashburton. Mr and Mrs F, M. Warren have sold their home, “Waipuna,” Clyde road, and are at present staying with Mr and Mrs Maurice Warren, Jackson’s road.

Mrs Cecil Wynn-Williams and Miss Ruth Wynn-Williams (Papanui road) are paying a round of visits in South Canterbury. Mrs E. Jennings, who is visiting Mrs Polhill, at Geraldine, will return to Christchurch on Tuesday,
