SOLDIERS’ TRIP TO SYDNEY INCLUSION IN SECOND CONTINGENT Although a good number of soldiers who were not members of the Ashcmrton branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association made application to the secretary of the branch (Mr F. A. Hickman) for inclusion in the first contingent of returned men to go to the sesquicentenniaJ celebrations of New South Wales, at Sydney, they were not eligible for inclusion. the condition being that applicants had to be financial members of a branch on March 31 last. When it was announced that a second steamer would be going to the celebrations, applications were called from members of the branch for one first and two third-class berths on the steamer, but Mr Hickman said yesterday that the four members of the branch, who were eligible for inclusion in the first contingent, had withdrawn their applications and no other members had made application.
