SOLDIERS’ TRIP TO SYDNEY INCLUSION IN SECOND CONTINGENT Although a good number of soldiers who were not members of the Ashcmrton branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association made application to the secretary of the branch (Mr F. A. Hickman) for inclusion in the first contingent of returned men to go to the sesquicentenniaJ celebrations of New South Wales, at Sydney, they were not eligible for inclusion. the condition being that applicants had to be financial members of a branch on March 31 last. When it was announced that a second steamer would be going to the celebrations, applications were called from members of the branch for one first and two third-class berths on the steamer, but Mr Hickman said yesterday that the four members of the branch, who were eligible for inclusion in the first contingent, had withdrawn their applications and no other members had made application. CRICKET ASHBURTON COUNTY ASSOCIATION DRAW AND UMPIRES FOR SATURDAY The following is the draw and umpires for the Ashburton County Cricket Association’s competition games to be played on Saturday:— Senior Grade—Kia Ora v. Technical, at Kia Ora (Messrs S. McElhinney and G. V. Furby); Ashburton v. Public Works Irrigation, on Oval (Messrs S. M. Cassidy and the Rev. C. W. Haskell); Old Boys v. Fairfield, at Fairton (Messrs A. E. Harvey and J. Price). Junior Grade—Public Works Irrigation v. Tinwald, at Winchmore (Messrs C. V. McNicol and W. Barrett); Coldstream v. Technical, at Coldstream (Messrs W. J. Armstrong and G. A. Wall); Old Bovs v. Lauriston, at Old Boys (Messrs D. McDougall and E. L Kerr): Kia Ora v. Methven. at Methven (Messrs W. J. Owen and C. Buttcrworth).
