FIVE O’CLOCK PARTY
MISS SYLVIA ORBELL HONOURED On the eve of her wedding. Miss Sylvia Orbell was entertained at a pleasant 5 o'clock party at the Grosvenor Hotel, Timaru, yesterday, by her bridesmaids, Misses Janet and Molly Orbell. Patricia Harper, Cara Pinckney, Molly Birch (Dunedin), Mary Reeves (Dunedin), Antoinette Wilder (Hawke’s Bay), and Patricia Powrie. The guest of honour wore a birchbrown wool georgette frock with Peter Pan collar and cuffs of beige satin, a leather belt and satin buttons finishing the bodice. Those invited were Mr and Mrs C. L. Orbell, Mr and Mrs F. J. Savill, Mr and Mrs Howard Savill, Mr and Mrs M. C. Harper, Mr and Mrs W. H. Orbell, Mr and Mrs K. H. Hargreaves. Mr and Mrs Harold Elworthy, Mr and Mrs H. B. L. Ritchie, Bernard Savill, J. M. Kerr, M. Gresson, Ronald Savill, Basil Shaw. FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION APPOINTMENTS MADE The secretary of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, * Miss F. L. Cooper, reports that at the last meeting of the executive it was decided to appoint Miss Hazel Gorrie. who has been connected with the association for the last 20 years, senior director, with an increase in salary. The following appointments were also made for the year 1938:—Phillipstown Kindergarten: Director, Miss E. Pearce; assistant. Miss N. Sturgess. Linwood Kindergarten; Director, Miss M. Suckling; assistant, Miss E. Furze (for three months). Sunbeam Kindergarten: Director. Miss H. Gorrie; assistant. Miss Joseph. New Brighton Kindergarten: Director, Miss J. Godfrey; assistant. Miss B. Andrews. Richmind Kindergarten: Director, Miss J. Bartrum: assistant. Miss C. Cordery. Selwyn Kindergarten: Director. Miss M Martin; assistant, Miss Clarke. Sydenham Kindergarten: Director, Miss N. Parsons: assistants. Miss G. Hughes and Miss F. Fisher. The secretary was aisked to write to those students who had applied fexpositions, but whom it was not possible to place, owing to the limited number of positions available, thanking them for their applications. FAREWELL PARTY An enjoyable time was spent at the home of Mrs R. W. Wylie (Kaiapoi), when friends gathered to say goodbye to Mrs George Miller and Mrs M. Isbister. who are leaving Kaiapoi to live in Christchurch. Musical items were given by Mrs I. Yellowlees, Miss Joyce Wylie, and Miss Myra Scott. After tea had been served, the guests of honour were presented by Mrs J. W. Barnard with, floral sprays and small gitfs. Among those present were Mesdame's G. Miller, M. Isbister, J. W. Barnard. J.
