FRENCH CABINET CRISIS
i ■ ♦ ’ M. CHAUTEMPS AGAIN SUMMONED ■ A PREVIOUS MINISTRY TO BE MODIFIED SOCIALISTS YET TO CONSIDER ATTITUDE (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 18, 10 p.m.) PARIS, January 18. After M. Leon Blum abandoned his task of trying to form a Government the President (M. Lebrun) asked the former Prime Minister (M. Chautemps) to form a Cabinet. M. Chautemps said; “You see, we have looped the loop and come back to where we left off.” He added that his Cabinet remained in the interim and, therefore, would not cause precipitate action, but would aim at submitting to Parliament a code of political peace. The banks have received permission to deal in francs for strictly commercial purposes. M. Chautemps is seeking to reconstruct bis old Cabinet, and is extending it slightly to the Right. He is asking the Socialists to participate and also not to vote with the Communists if the latter oppose the Government. The result depends on a meeting of the Socialist National Council hurriedly summoned from all parts of France.
