HOTELS CLOSED IN SWEDEN
* GOVERNMENT’S HEAVY LOSS OF TAXATION (Received January 18, 8.30 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, January 17. Hotels are placarded “Closed until further notice,” and trains and ferries are running without dining facilities. The Government, which is losing £3500 in liquor tax daily, has instructed an official commission to intervene. Meanwhile both sides declare they will fight to the finish. Trades unions are giving 20,000 locked-out employees £SOOO weekly, in addition to strike pay.
