Good Progress Made YIELD EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT Although the broken, weather during the 'last week slightly impeded progress, harvesting is making rapid 6trides in the Amuri County. Most of the oat crops have been cut, tome of which have been stacked. HORSE SPORTS TO BE HELD BANKS PENINSULA A- AND P. ASSOCIATION A meeting of the general committee of the Banks Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Association was hem ai the Coronation Library. Mr Keith Parkinson presided. It was decided to hold a horse sports meeting similar to the Takamatua horse sports, on February 26. . 1 , . . A committee was appointed to inspect and make a report on a proposed course at Lake Forsyth and also to draw up a tentative programme to pe discussed at the next general meeting. FAREWELL AT KAIKOUBA Members of the Kaikoura Croquet Club met on Wednesday afternoon to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs E. J. Anstiss, who have been members ot the club for several years, and wtvo Will shortly leave Kaikoura. Mrs £. J. Williams, on behalf of the president, Mrs W. A. Ferry, spoke of the loss the club would suffer by the departure of Mr and Mrs Anstiss, and wished them every success for the future. She presented Mrs Anstiss with a bedroom clock and Mr Anstiss with a tobacco pouch. Mr Gooch endorsed the remarks of Mrs Williams. Mr and Mrs Anstiss thanked the jnembers for their good wishes and •he presents which they had received. Afternoon tea was served.

QUEEN CARNIVAL DANCE FUNCTION AT RANGIOKA For the funds of the scarlet queen (Miss D. Brady) in the Rangiora branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association's queen carnival, a concert and dance were hold in the Celtic Hall on Wednesday evening. The programme opened -with a community sing led by Mr L. P. Devlin. Items were given as follows:—Violin solos, Mr T. Joye; songs, Mrs Peryman, Misses Helen Devlin, Joan Watson, and Messrs S. V. Whitta, L. P. Devlin, and J. J. Mcßrearty; recitations, Miss Kathleen Blackie; dances, Misses Pheone Prestney and Margaret Schluter, Mrs R. T: Watson and Misses N. Fitzgibbon, P. McBrearty, and D. Brady were the accompanists. Music for the dancing was played by Misses Fitzgibbon and Bvady, and Messrs H. Banfield and G. A. Brady. Mr W. Muir was the master of ceremonies. RANGIOKA MOUNTAINEERING CLUB Three members of the Rangiora Mountaineering and Tramping Club Messrs R. G. A. Logan, A. G. Banfield, and B. R. Banfield. returned to Rangiora late on Wednesday .night after spending a week climbing at the headwaters of the Rakaia river. The chief ascents were those of Mount Goethe and Nicholson Peak, both of which were reached from the Lycll Glacier. DANCE AT SPRINGSTON SOUTH The committee of the Springston South School held a social in the Memorial Hall. Dancing, games. and competitions were enjoyed. The ham competition was won by Miss P. Hamilton, the Monte Carlo by Mr and Mrs A. Bird (Lincoln), and the cards by Miss E. Bailey and Mrs A. Birch, Messrs E. Ooie and F. - Lancaster. Misses M. and T. Riordan sunolied the music, and Mr C. Bailey was the master of ceremonies. PRESENTATION AT LITTLE RIVER Mrs C. Withers, who has been a member of the Little River Mothers' Union for eight years, and who left yesterday for her new home at Clinton, was the guest of honour at an afternoon party given in her honour by the members of the union at "Omana," the home of Mrs S. S. Barclay. A pleasant time was spent in clock golf, games, and competitions, the winners being Mrs Withers, Mrs C. Cradock, and Mrs C. Barclay. Mrs A. Mould expressed regret at Mrs Withers' departure and presented her with a pair of crystal dishes. Thwaites has returned to Rangiora after visiting Arthur's Pass. KAIAPOI Mi and Mrs E. J. Corcoran (Kaiapoi) have returned from a holiday spent at Mount Cook. Mrs R. C. Stewart and her small daughter have returned to Kaiapoi from a short visit to Timaru. Miss C. McDougall, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. McPherson, who has been manager of the Culverden branch of Messrs Blackwell Motors, Ltd., for two and a half years, will leave for Palmerston North to join the staff of Messrs C. C. Wakefield and Company about the end of January. LITTLE RIVER Mr and Mrs F. Roberts (Christchurch) have been the guests of Mr and Mrs C. Fergusson, Western Valley, Little River. Miss Jean le Compte (Cooptown) has left to spend a holiday with her sister, Mrs E. Greible (Kaiapoi). CHURCH MEMBERS HONOURED COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL AT KAIKOURA Mr and Mrs E. J. Anstiss were the guests of honour in St. Peter's schoolroom, Kaikoura, on Wednesday evening, when members of the Anglican Church, Kaikoura, met to say goodbye to them. The evening was devoted to competitions, which were won by Mesdames E. E. Weavers and W. A. Ferry. Mrs A. Gooch presented a bouquet to Mrs Anstiss. Vocal items were given by Mesdames J. F. Orchard and H. G. Sell (Christchureh). and Mr J. Carter. Mesdames N. R. Comer and J. Carter were the accompanists. Mr W. F. Perrin gave a humorous recitation. Mr Edwin Gray, in the absence of the Rev. S. Corney, spoke of the good work done by Mr Anstiss. Mr J. C. Smith and Mr W. F. Perrin endorsed the remarks of Mr Gray, and Mrs Stubbersfield, on behalf of. the Ladies' Guild, spoke of the loss the guild would suffer through the departure of Mrs Anstiss. The Rev. H. G. Sell, of Christchurch, also spoke. Mr Gray, on behalf of the parishioners, presented Mr and Mrs Anstiss with a travelling rug. Mr and Mrs Anstiss replied and thanked those present for their good wishes. WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION OKUKU The January meeting of the Okuku branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held recently. The vice-president (Mrs J. McCracken) presided. A most instructive and interesting talk on glovemaking was given by Mr R. G. Wolff. Competitions resulted as follows: Largest bloom: Mrs Feary 1, Mrs Woods 2, Mrs Mehrtens 3. A presentation box of flowers was given to Miss A. Marshall, who is leaving for an extended tour of Australia. Community singing and competitions were enjoyed by those present.
