LABOUR DISPUTE ON WATERFRONT
♦ NON-UNIONISTS REMAIN IDLE [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND. September 12. No settlement was reached during the week-end in the dispute created by the displacement of 25 non-union-ist waterside workers on Friday. When non-unionists, who were working on the Narbada, were told on Friday morning that their places would be taken by unionists who had been working on the Hertford, a decision was made by all non-unicnists working at the port to stop work. After a conference between delegates from the non-Unlonists and representatives of the ship owners on Friday, the men were told that under the existing legislation preference had to be given to unionists when they Were available and willing. That preference applied to all branches of industry under the Industrial. Conciliation, and Arbitration Act. After another short meeting the men decided to continue their refusal to work shins until Saturday morning. Another meeting was held on Saturdav morning, and it was decided to adiotu- n until to-moarow, when another meeting will be held. In the meantime, non-unionists are not working.
