EXPORT OF MERINO SHEEP

EFFECT OF N.Z. SALES ON AUSTRALIAN EMBARGO

SYDNEY, July 2. The opinion was expressed at the last annual conference of the Graziers' Association of New South Wales that the effectiveness of the embargo on the export of merinos was endangered by the sale of sheep to New Zealand. A resident of Wellington, New Zealand, designating himself "A. 8.," in a letter to the "Sydney Morning Herald" issues a warning to Australian sheep owners that the purpose of the embargo is jeopardised by the export of merinos from New Zealand to countries to which the Australian embargo applies. He suggests that it may be advisable for the Commonwealth Government to prohibit the export of sheep to New Zealand. He adds: "New Zealand is sending merinos to Japan and to any country she can sell them to."
