WORK OF DISABLED MEN

♦ EXHIBITION TO BE OPENED TO-DAY An exhibition and sale of articles made in England by craftsmen disabled in the Great War will be held in the Automobile Association Hall under the auspices of the Disabled Sailors' and Soldiers' Mutual Association. The opening ceremony, at which the Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland) will preside, will be performed at 2.30 this afternoon, by Sir R. Heaton Rhodes. The exhibition will end on Wednesday evening. It is the purpose of the exhibition to demonstrate to the public that war disabled men can produce articles equal in every way to those on the market, in spite of injuries. The association hopes, by a series of exhibitions in the chief centres of the Dominion, showing work being done in England to stimulate local interest in the wardisabled men. Printed and painted textiles- in silk, linen, and canvas; small fancy goods made by the War Service Legion (London), and knitted socks and stockings supplied by the Disabled Sailors' and Soldiers of Eastbourne, are among the exhibits. It is hoped to include specimens of hand-woven tweeds from the British Legion Cambrian factory in Wales. The merchandise will be sold to cover expenses of the exhibition. The association was founded towards the end of the Great War to find occupations for those who had been rendered incapable of finding normal employment.
